Important booking note
Ranger and Rover train tickets cannot be purchased online or via the Northern App. You can easily buy them on the day of travel or in advance at any staffed station Ticket Office, or from a Northern Ticket Vending Machine (TVM). If boarding at an unstaffed station, you can buy them directly from your train conductor.

Planning a trip to Cumbria? We've made it easier than ever for you to get around and discover everything the local area has to offer. The Cumbria Travel Pass gives you unlimited travel on trains, buses and even boats for just £40 for one day or £99 for three days.
The pass is valid on Northern, TransPennine and Avanti trains, Stagecoach buses, and Windermere Cruises. With one pass covering everything, it's easier than ever to explore Cumbria and the Lake District.
- One-day tickets are available every day and are valid for travel on a single day. Three-day passes must be used on consecutive days.
- Tickets can be purchased up to 11 months in advance of travel and up to the day of travel.
- Tickets are valid at any time on weekdays and weekends.
- Children under 5 travel free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. Children aged 5–15 inclusive travel at half price.
- The Cumbria Travel Pass can be used on any Northern, Avanti West Coast or TransPennine Express trains, Stagecoach buses and Windermere Day Cruises as per the boundaries below;

Where to purchase
Rail Rover tickets can be bought from any staffed station in Great Britain. Please note that they cannot be purchased on trains.
Time Restrictions
Rail Rover tickets are available for travel on trains timed to depart after 09:00, Mondays to Fridays and at any time at weekends and bank holidays. The following exceptions apply:
- North Country and North West Rovers are valid on the Cumbrian Coast line (Barrow-in-Furness - Carlisle via Whitehaven) at any time.
- North West Rovers are valid from Lockerbie to Carlisle at any time.
Using a Rail Rover ticket
You can use your Rail Rover ticket on all train companies' services shown on the maps below, except for Grand Central and First Hull Trains.
Seven-Day Rover tickets are valid for seven consecutive days of travel. Four days in eight consecutive days, Rovers are valid for travel on four separate days. They can be any four days within the eight days, but you must write the date of travel in the boxes issued with your Rover ticket before travel on each of the days. Dates must be written as numbers, not letters, i.e. 7 July would be 07 07.
Railcard and Child discounts
Railcard discounts are available on our Rover tickets, where the conditions of the Railcard are met. Children 5 - 15 years old inclusive travel at half the adult fare.

If you'd like to travel for just one day, then try our Day Ranger or Round Robin tickets. Each one covers a specific route or defined area and allows you to hop on and off trains all day.
Rangers tickets and Rovers train tickets offer great value, offering unlimited travel within a specific area and time.
- Rangers tickets are valid for 1 day
- Rovers tickets are valid for more than 1 day, in a limited period. So, for example, you can travel four out of eight consecutive days within your chosen area, or on seven consecutive days covering the North East and North West.
