Engineering, improvements and disruptions
Engineering works underway, better travel ahead
Rail engineering works are an essential part of maintaining and upgrading the rail network.
To keep disruptions to a minimum most planned engineering works take place overnight or at the weekend. When they do, we’ll let you know in advance, and arrange alternative travel, like rail replacement buses to get you where you need to be.
Some journeys may take a little longer, or run at different times, but we’re committed to keeping you moving safely, comfortably, and with as little delay as possible.
For larger rail improvement works, there may be longer periods of disruption. We’ll post the details here in advance so you can plan ahead,
You can check what’s happening across the rail network over the next 12 weeks on the National Rail website.
Remember, the Northern App and online journey planners like National Rail are the best way to check for any changes to your journey before you travel.
