A 16-17 Saver Railcard offers young people discounted train fares on eligible journeys. This is a great railcard for 16 and 17 year olds as it offers savings on train tickets and can be used for standard Anytime, Off-Peak, Advance and Season tickets.

Am I eligible for a 16-17 Railcard?

If you’re aged 16 or 17, you’re eligible! The 16-17 Saver Railcard is valid for one year or until your 18th birthday, whichever comes first.

How much is the 16-17 Saver Railcard?

The 16-17 Saver Railcard costs just £35! Your 16-17 Saver will be valid for one year or until you turn 18.

How much can I save with a 16-17 Saver Railcard?

A 16-17 Saver Railcard gives you 50% off standard Anytime, Off-Peak, Advance and Season tickets, with no time restrictions and no minimum fare.

Where can I use the 16-17 Saver Railcard? 

You can use your 16-17 Saver to travel anywhere in Great Britain on the National Rail network, except on ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper services.

Where can I buy a 16-17 Saver Railcard?

You can quickly and easily apply for and buy a 16-17 Saver Railcard via the Northern app or via our website. 

Alternatively, you can buy your 16-17 Saver over the phone: 0345 301 1656. All you need is evidence of age, a digital passport-style photo and a debit or credit card for payment. Choose to get your 16-17 Saver on your phone or get a physical railcard card sent to you.

It is also worth noting that it is possible to order your 16-17 Saver Railcard up to 14 days in advance of your 16th birthday.

What is the difference between a 16-17 Railcard and a 16-25 Railcard?

The 16-17 Saver Railcard is aimed at young people aged 16 or 17 and offers 50% off Standard, Anytime, Off-Peak and Season tickets. With this railcard, travel is permitted at any time of the day.

The 16-25 railcard offers one-third off Standard Anytime and Off-Peak tickets, and is largely recommended for leisure travel. This railcard can be used at any time of the day, however, between 4:30am and 10am, a minimum fare of £12 applies. This railcard applies to Standard Anytime and Standard Off-Peak tickets, as well as Standard and First Class Advance tickets but doesn't apply to Season tickets.
