Changes to trains due to slippery rails
While most of our trains are running as normal, some routes are being disrupted by slippery rails. When trains compress leaves in wet conditions, they form a slippery mulch on the rails. It's often described as the railway's version of black ice and makes it harder for trains to stop and start.
Affected routes are listed in the dropdowns below.
Some stations on the following routes will have fewer trains than normal:
- Between Blackburn and Headbolt Lane - some trains will not call at Walsden, Littleborough, and Smithy Bridge.
- Between Hull and Halifax - all trains from Hull will terminate at Bradford Interchange, all trains from Halifax will start from Bradford Interchange.
- Between Leeds and Chester - all trains will not call at Bramley and New Pudsey
- Between Leeds and York via Harrogate - some trains will not call at Headingley, and some trains will not call at Weeton.
- Between Sheffield and Scarborough - trains will run express between Hull and Bridlington. Stations between Hull and Bridlington will still be served by York - Bridlington trains.
The following routes will have fewer train services than normal:
- Between Blackburn and Rochdale via Bolton
- Between Manchester Piccadilly and Hazel Grove
- Between Manchester Victoria and Leeds
Some stations on the following routes will have fewer trains than normal:
- Between Sheffield and Scarborough - trains will run express between Hull and Bridlington; stations between Hull and Bridlington will still be served by York – Bridlington trains.
- Between Hull and Halifax - trains will start and terminate at Bradford Interchange. Halifax and Low Moor will be served by our Bradford Interchange to Leeds and Leeds to Chester services. Halifax will also be served by our York to Blackpool North trains.
- Between Leeds and Chester - trains will not stop at New Pudsey or Bramley; these stations will be served by our Hull-Bradford Interchange service.
- Between Leeds and Manchester Victoria - trains will not stop at New Pudsey or Bramley; these stations will be served by our Hull-Bradford Interchange service.
The following routes will have fewer train services than normal:
- Between Manchester Piccadilly and Hazel Grove
- Between Manchester Piccadilly and Alderley Edge
