Advance Single tickets
Advance Single tickets cannot be refunded, but don’t worry you can still change them with Train Swap.
If you just need a different same-day train, you can use Seatfrog Train Swap to switch your ticket:
- Pop in your train details
- Choose another Northern train on the same day
- Pay from just £1.50
- We’ll email you a barcode — show it with your original ticket when you're onboard
- Just make sure you swap at least 10 minutes before your original train leaves.
Off-peak, Super off-peak and Anytime tickets
These types of tickets can’t be changed, but you can get a refund if your plans have changed.
Before you cancel, it’s worth double-checking with our Customer service team if your ticket already covers the time you want to travel.
Change your route or time of travel
If you're after a completely different time or want to change the route, here’s what to do:
- You’ve got to keep the same start and end stations
- Do it at least 10 minutes before your train goes
- There’s a £10 admin fee per ticket, per person
- If your new ticket costs more, you’ll need to pay the difference
- You can’t pick a cheaper fare than the one you’ve already got.
No. You can only swap for another Northern service on the same-day as your original trip.
No — swaps are for the same journey only. So you’ll need to stick with the origin and destination station when switching your ticket.
