Northern Trains Limited is owned by DfT OLR Holdings Limited (DOHL), which took on the operation of Northern services on 1 March 2020.  DOHL has responsibility for four rail companies, LNER, Northern Trains Limited, TransPennine Trains and SE Trains ('Southeastern'). DOHL is committed to working closely with all aspects of the rail industry to ensure the continued provision of critical passenger rail services.

What we do:

  • Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK.

  • We provide around 2,500 local and regional services every day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.

  • In total, 100 million passenger journeys are made on our network each year.

  • We employ more than 7,000 people across the length and breadth of our network.

 

In recent years, we have introduced 100 new trains as part of a £500 million investment in regional rail. In addition, all our existing fleet have been fully refurbished including new seats, lights, charging points, CCTV and Wi-Fi.

Our aim is to offer customers 'a better way to go' with further improvements across the network including the renovation of station facilities, better lighting, upgraded car parks and enhanced CCTV coverage.
