Our vision: Make a positive impact for the North, in all we do and for all we serve.

Our purpose: Get customers to where they need to be, safely, affordably and on time.

Our Values

  • Make a difference: We never settle for okay. We pursue perfection, seek out better ways and always look to improve.
  • Make it last: What we do today affects tomorrow, so we look after the environment, our communities and each other.
  • Make it yours: We're proud to be who are. We don't hide our personality, we let it shine and bring our best every day.
  • Make it easy: Who likes complicated? We keep things simple, help each other out and always find solutions.
  • Make it happen: We get the job done. Our expertise and knowledge mean we see things through.

What we do:

  • Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK.

  • We provide around 2,500 local and regional services every day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.

  • In total, 100 million passenger journeys are made on our network each year.

  • We employ more than 7,000 people across the length and breadth of our network.

In recent years, we have introduced 100 new trains as part of a £500 million investment in regional rail. In addition, all our existing fleet have been fully refurbished including new seats, lights, charging points, CCTV and Wi-Fi.

Our aim is to offer customers 'a better way to go' with further improvements across the network including the renovation of station facilities, better lighting, upgraded car parks and enhanced CCTV coverage.
