Trains to the Yorkshire Coast Explore the North's coastline
With 100 miles of coastline, the Yorkshire Coast is one of the jewels of Britain, with plenty of sparkling towns to visit along its storied shores. Spanning from the chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head to the Jurassic and sandstone cliffs of North York Moors, the coast is filled with long-established historical towns to visit.
As a former spa town, Scarborough has been a popular destination for getaways since the 1600s, however, it has become far more than a spa town, enhancing its relaxation properties with layers of excitement. The town is now more akin to a beach resort, with Luna Park and Peasholm Park providing ample entertainment.
Whitby is the premier place for the history buff along the Yorkshire Coast. Unlike Liverpool, Hull, or Newcastle, the Yorkshire Coast developed around independent fishing communities such as Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, and Staithes. This produced a maritime culture based on family boats, seasonal risk, and local knowledge rather than dock labour or global trade. Find out everything there is to know about Whitby at the museum, or head over to Whitby Abbey for splendid views.
Looking to interact with some animals during your stay? Head over to Filey and check out their Bird Garden and Animal Park, with the chance to feed some of their exotic wildlife, from meerkats, to wallabies, to the humble donkey. Filey is the perfect family day out!
