Bolton train station information

Bolton Interchange combines the train and bus stations in one busy place - the train station alone sees over 3 million passengers every year.

Opened in 1838, it was originally known as Trinity Street Station. However, all the old building were demolished in the 1980s, although the iconic clock tower was rebuilt on the site of the new Bolton Station, standing tall overlooking Bolton city centre as it had done for over a century.

Undergoing a huge refurbishment in 2006, Bolton Station was given lifts, a new ticket office and improved access to all platforms via a bridge. With the addition of the Interchange, several innovative sustainable ideas have been implemented, including recycling rainwater, solar panels and low energy lighting.
