From Sunday 7 December 2025, rail fares across Greater Manchester will be simplified to make train travel easier, fairer and more flexible. The simpler fares are one of the key stepping stones to integrating rail with the wider Bee Network in Greater Manchester in 2026.

Combined Greater Manchester Metrolink tickets

You can now purchase a combined ticket that includes your Northern train journey and onward travel on Manchester’s Metrolink tram network.

Take the train into Greater Manchester, then hop on a tram to explore the city and surrounding areas.

Your train journey will take you to one of three Manchester stations: Manchester Victoria, Piccadilly or Deansgate. From here, you can easily transfer to the Metrolink trams by following the yellow signs around the station.

Who's this for?

Anyone can buy these tickets; but if you're a school or college student (16-19); 60+, or you have a National Concessionary Travel Pass due to Disability there may be better ticekts for you, which you can check out on the TFGM website.

  • Metrolink tram travel within your chosen zones

It’s a convenient and cost-effective way to travel through Manchester.

When choosing your Metrolink ticket , consider whether you want to stay in central zones around the city centre, or whether you'd like to go further afield and explore Greater Manchester.

Where can I buy tickets?

Buy your ticket at a Northern ticket office:

  • At the ticket office you’ll need to ask for the Manchester Metrolink add-on ticket.

Buy your ticket at a Manchester tram stop

If you start your journey from a tram stop buy your ticket from the ticket machine at the stop before you travel:

  • Press 'Combined Travel - Tram Bus Train and Railzone'
  • choose 'Railzone'
  • Select the button for the rail zone of the station you are going to.
  • (If you need information about which stations are located within each Railzone, press the information button, next to each Railzone on the ticket machine'

From: Trafford, Salford and surrounding areas

To: Central Manchester, Trafford, Salford and surrounding areas (Zone 1+2)

This ticket is ideal for those wanting to explore the main city centre for culture and shopping, football fans looking to visit Old Trafford or the Etihad Campus, or those who want to take in Salford Quays.

  • Peak Return: £6.80
  • Off-Peak Return: £5.40
  • 7-Day Add-On: £22.80

Child Fares

  • Single: £2.40
  • Peak Return: £3.40
  • Off-Peak Return: £2.70
  • 7-Day Add-On: £11.40

At the ticket office, ask for a Manchester Metro ticket for Zones 1 and 2.

This ticket will take you to all the locations in Zones 1 and 2, plus the Trafford Centre for those who love to shop, East Didsbury, Heaton Park and Ashton-under-Lyne.
