Who is eligible for a Dales Railcard?

You may apply for a Dales Railcard if you live between:

  • Skipton and Carlisle (on the Leeds-Settle-Appleby-Carlisle line)
  • Skipton and Carnforth (on the Bentham line between Leeds – Lancaster – Morecambe / Heysham Port)
  • Whalley / Clitheroe and Hellifield (on the Ribble Valley line)
  • If your postcode is in one of the following areas, or in Clitheroe or Whalley (Lancs)
    • CA 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17
    • DL 8, 11, 12
    • LA 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 10
    • BD 23, 24
    • BB7

Where can I use my Dales Railcard?

Valid for journeys wholly on the following lines only:

  • Leeds / Bradford Forster Square – Carlisle via Settle
  • Leeds / Bradford Forster Square – Lancaster / Morecambe / Heysham Port via Bentham
  • Whalley (Lancs) / Clitheroe – Hellifield (Sundays only)
Not valid for local journeys as follows:
  • Carnforth – Morecambe / Heysham Port inclusive
  • Leeds / Bradford Forster Square – Skipton inclusive
  • Whalley (Lancs) – Clitheroe

When can I use my Dales Railcard?

You can use the Dales Railcard except for travel on trains timed to depart before 0815 Monday to Friday. Valid at all times weekends and Bank Holidays.

What ticket types do I get a discount on?

Walk-up fares booked in advance or on the day:

  • SDS – Anytime Day Single
  • SDR – Anytime Day Return
  • CDS – Off-Peak Day Single
  • CDR – Off-Peak Day Return
  • SHR – Anytime Short Return
  • SOR – Anytime Return
  • Settle - Carlisle Line Day Ranger

How much does a Dales Railcard cost?

The Dales Railcard can be bought for only £10.00 per person.

You save 1/3rd on the cost of valid tickets between valid stations.

Where can a Dales Railcard be purchased?

Dales Railcard can be purchased from the ticket offices at Appleby, Carlisle, Settle or Skipton stations or from the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Co Ltd.

What about children?

Up to four children (ages 5 to 15 inclusive) can travel with a railcard holder and the child fare is based on an 81% discount on the adult fare. There is a minimum child fare of £1.

Frequently asked questions about buying a Dales Railcard.

Dales Railcard holders will be able to take advantage of the annual winter offer, where for a special fare passengers can travel the whole route. Occasionally other special offers are also made available to Dales Railcard Holders.

Every effort is made to advise Dales Railcard holders, who have given their explicit permission, of the special offers by post or by email. Alternatively, details of any special offers can be found at  www.settle-carlisle.co.uk.  We only share your personal details with trusted partners in order to deliver services to you.

Complete a form at Appleby, Carlisle, Settle or Skipton stations with proof of your address and identity (eg driving licence, utilities bill) or apply online on the Settle - Carlisle website.

Dales Railcards are valid for twelve months from the date of issue or commencement date. You can apply up to one month in advance for a renewal Dales Railcard. Website Purchases: Please allow seven to ten days for online applications to be processed and Dales Railcards delivered to you.
