 Who can apply for the Esk Valley Railcard?

You can apply for an Esk Valley Railcard if you are 16 and over and live in:

  • The Hambleton, Scarborough or Ryedale Districts of North Yorkshire
  • The Boroughs of Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland or Stockton.
  • You have one of the following postcodes:
    • DL 2, 6, 7, 8, 10
    • HG 4
    • TS 1, 9, 10, 13, 15, 19
    • YO 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 26, 30, 32, 41, 60, 61, 62

Where can I use the Esk Valley Railcard?

The Esk Valley Railway Railcard offers discounted fares between:

  • Whitby and Middlesbrough and intermediate stations on the Northern services.
  • Whitby and Pickering on North Yorkshire Moors Railway services.

A Esk Valley Railcard is £15 per person for a year.

How long is the Railcard valid?

Esk Valley Railcards are valid for twelve months from the date of issue or commencement date. 

How much can I save with an Esk Valley Railcard?

With an Esk Valley Railcard you can enjoy the following benefits and savings:

  • Enjoy a one-third discount on standard adult train fares on the Esk Valley line.
  • Up to 4 accompanying children under 16 can also benefit from a one-third discount, based on an 81% reduction in the adult fares. Please note that there is a minimum child fare of £1.
  • Additionally, you will receive a one-third discount on North Yorkshire Moors Railway fares.

Please remember that the Esk Valley Railcard is not valid for use with season tickets.

How do I apply for an Esk Valley Railcard?

You can buy an Esk Valley Railcard from the following stations:

  • Middlesbrough
  • Northallerton
  • Redcar Central
  • Scarborough
  • Thirsk
  • Thornaby
  • Malton
  • Whitby

When your station is open, please grab your ticket at the ticket office. If you find the office closed, don’t worry! You can easily get your ticket from the conductor on the train.
