Liverpool Lime Street Train Station facilities

Located in Liverpool, Merseyside, Liverpool Lime Street opened its doors in 1836, and underwent large-scale redevelopment in the early 2000s in conjunction with the city being named European Capital Culture for 2008. With nearly 20 million commuters passing through the station yearly, and being at the heart of the popular attractions, it’s the busiest station in Liverpool.

The station was designed by architects Arthur Holme, John Cunningham, and John Foster, and had four large gateways, two of which were intentionally nonfunctional - demonstrating how important appearance and functionality can be to the final result. The latest incarnation has resulted in an impressive station fit for the new millennium, featuring improved facilities, a more streamlined infrastructure, and a much better passenger experience.

Liverpool Lime Street Station is divided into two sections. The mainline station offers national intercity and regional overground services and was awarded Station of the Year in 2010, whilst underground, there’s the Merseyrail Underground station.
