Deansgate station entrance closed until Monday: Customers advised to use Metrolink exit

People arriving or departing from Deansgate station in Manchester will have to enter and exit the platforms via Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink station until Monday 24 February.

The train operator, Northern says the main entrance has been closed while essential repairs are made to the station roof.

Deansgate railway station, which serves over 1.3m people every year, is connected to Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink station via a footbridge over Whitworth Street West.

Craig Harrop, regional director for Northern, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this causes, which is unavoidable while these repairs are made to the station roof.

“The station remains fully accessible, with stairs and lifts available to all platforms – although people should allow a little extra time to catch their train as they familiarise themselves with the temporary pedestrian route.”

Deansgate is one of seven stations on the Northern network currently taking part in a Rail Delivery Group trial that has seen more Welcome Points installed at stations to help customers in need of assistance.

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with nearly 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
