Opened in 1840, Poulton-le-Fylde Station was originally positioned a few hundred yards from the current site, but following a fatal accident on the tight connecting curves to Blackpool Station, the tracks were straightened and Poulton Station moved to its current location in 1896.

The buildings were rebuilt in 2009, with a complete modernisation programme including new signalling, and now nearly half a million passengers come through its doors annually.
