Manchester Piccadilly Train Station facilities

Manchester Piccadilly train station information

Piccadilly sees more than 30 million passengers passing through its doors annually, making it the busiest out of Manchester’s five stations, and the UK’s fourth busiest outside the capital. With 16 platforms, it has changed dramatically since opening in the 1840s, including several name changes, finally settling on Piccadilly in 1960.

The station underwent its most dramatic transformation in 2002 - a five-year, £100 million redesign to cope with the vast number of passengers and to prepare for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The Grade II listed glass roof was given a sensitive makeover, a mezzanine level was added and moving walkways were installed to make travelling between platforms a streamlined process.
