1. Nottingham Castle, Nottingham

Nottingham Castle is a great day out for the whole family. With plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied, from learning about medieval life to exploring the gardens, it's the perfect place to spend some time together. The ancient history of Nottingham Castle began when William the Conqueror ordered its construction in 1068. The Norman lord wanted to establish his power over central and northern England, so he built this castle as a wooden motte-and-bailey first before developing it. It has been destroyed many times over its lifetime.

Next, take some time to explore the castle grounds. The gardens are particularly lovely, and there are plenty of photo opportunities to be had. Finally, no visit to Nottingham Castle would be complete without stopping by the Museum of Nottingham Life. Here, you can learn all about what life was like in medieval Nottingham. You can even try your hand at some traditional crafts! It's a great way to round off your day.

The factory tour takes about an hour, and you'll get to see all aspects of production, from shaping and moulding to painting and glazing. The museum at World of Wedgwood is a great way to learn about the history of the company and its founder. The museum houses over 250 pieces of Wedgwood pottery, ranging from early experimental pieces to modern day designs. There are also interactive exhibits that allow visitors to get hands-on with some of the processes involved in making Wedgwood pottery.
