Digital pay as you go
Following a DfT review of the Digital Pay As You Go (DPAYG) trials, this is a short note to let you know that the planned Sheffield to Barnsley DPAYG trial will not now go ahead. DfT are looking at potential options for next steps, and we’ll be back in touch if there are any developments.
The DfT review considered the original trial objectives alongside insights from the success of the three current DPAYG trials (Leeds to Harrogate/Sheffield to Doncaster for Northern, plus Nottingham-Derby-Leicester for East Midlands Railway). The trials show customers are embracing the technology, valuing its simplicity, flexibility and freedom to travel without the need to pre-plan, while supporting positive changes in travel behaviour.
Based on these findings, DfT do not believe that moving ahead with the Sheffield–Barnsley trial would generate significant additional insight at this time.
All of the existing DPAYG trials are still performing well and will continue as planned.
