The overall train ticket price depends on a number of factors, including the length of your journey, when you want to travel and the type of ticket you require. 

Northern offers cheap rail fares throughout our 500 stations across the North of England, and our most popular ticket types include: 

Season tickets

Ideal for regular travellers, whether you commute to work or school, Season Tickets deliver discounted train travel. Available for duration - Annually, Monthly or Weekly Season Tickets allow you to catch a train anytime during the allocated period. Flexi Season Tickets are perfect if you work from home for part of the week as you only pay for the days you travel - up to 8 days out of 28. If you’re a student travelling between home and school or college, Education Season Tickets give you a massive 75% saving on the equivalent adult ticket if purchased online.

Advance Tickets

An Advance Ticket allows you the opportunity to choose the best time to travel at the lowest available train fare. Being so popular, they have limited availability, and can be purchased up to 8 weeks before you are due to travel; however, last minute deals can be grabbed up to 5 minutes before your journey. Generally, though, the earlier you book, the bigger the discount.

Anytime Tickets

Offering you complete flexiblility, Anytime Tickets allow you to travel between your chosen stations at any time without restrictions. You can also break your journey at stations along the route.

Off-Peak Tickets

Make your journey outside of rush hour trains, and use Northern’s Off-Peak Tickets to travel in comfort. Purchased up to and including the day of travel, deals on Off-Peak Tickets may only be available on certain routes, but we’ll inform you of any restrictions when you book.
