It's just a bit of hot weather...
How hot weather can disrupt the railway.
Hot weather can cause disruption across the railway in a number of ways including damage to overhead wires, prolonged droughts cracking rail beds and rail tracks getting too hot and buckling. Along with Network Rail, we monitor the railway to ensure we continue to run safely. To enable safe running, we may sometimes run at reduced speeds during high temperatures so as not to stress the infrastructure.
Always check before you travel. You can check how your train is running further down this page.
You can find out more about how hot weather affects the railway and the work the industry does during hot weather on the National Rail website.
Travelling safely during hot weather
We want to ensure everyone is safe when travelling on the railway in hot weather. Please follow the below advice to keep safe this summer.
-
Carry water with you
-
Ask staff for the location of water fountains at some of our stations
-
Use sunscreen when exposed to direct sunlight
-
Do not board a train service if you feel unwell. If you are travelling and feel unwell please speak with the conductor or get off at the next stop and seek help from station staff or the help points
-
Avoid pulling the passenger alarm between stations, as help can be more easily obtained with the train in a platform, as opposed to standing stationary on a railway line
