Time is running out to secure tickets to historic depot open event, says Northern
Northern will be opening the doors to one of Britain's oldest working train depots to mark 150 years of trains being based at the site.
The event is a rare chance to step into a piece of railway history and celebrate the people, places, and machines that have kept the North moving for 150 years.
It comes amid celebrations for Railway 200, the nationwide event marking 200 years of the modern railway in Britain.
As well as the chance to go behind the scenes at workshops and facilities, there will be a range of current and historic trains and locomotives on display, including the iconic A4 Pacific steam locomotive, Sir Nigel Gresley, plus an Intercity 125 High Speed Train displayed on Saturday.
Jason Wade, regional director for Northern, said: "We're delighted with the fantastic response we've had so far, and can't wait to welcome thousands of visitors over the weekend to this hugely important site on the railway.
"All money raised from the event will go to local charities chosen by the Heaton TrainCare team and the Motor Neurone Disease Foundation, so it's the perfect opportunity to not only enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime day out, but to support a good cause at the same time".
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for children. A complimentary shuttle train and bus service will run from Newcastle station to Heaton TrainCare Centre and back throughout each day.
More information about the event, as well as the link to book tickets, can be found on Northern's website.
Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,650 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
