On 5 March 2023 rail fares will increase by 5.9% across the rail network, nationwide.

As we largely operate local stopping services, the vast majority of journeys are relatively short distances on comparatively low value tickets. As such, the majority of fare changes on our services can be measured in pence, not pounds.

Advance tickets

We’re introducing more advance tickets to routes which previously didn’t have them available.

Advance tickets may change from time to time as we adjust according to demand and how busy services are, for example adding more tickets where capacity allows and reducing the number where trains are already busy. Here are a few tips to get the best advance tickets:

  • Buy in advance for the cheapest rate - that’s why they are called advance tickets. Tickets are released 6-8 weeks in advance
  • Advance tickets can be bought up to the day of travel, however they are limited and prices may increase closer to the date of travel
  • For the cheaper advance tickets you may need to look at different times of the day, such as avoiding busy services in the morning
  • Advance tickets are limited and subject to availability. What may be available one day, may not the next - the best advice is to buy as far in advance as possible
