York Station: Major Train Disruptions
Overview
From Saturday 25 October to Sunday 23rd November Network Rail will be carrying out major improvement works at York station. This will impact the train services running through York, and we will be running an amended timetable.
The engineering work involves updating and renewing tracks and signals; improving the drainage; resurfacing some level crossings in the area - all contributing to the longevity of our railway.
Key changes

Northern services to and from York will be affected on the following dates:
- Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October – No trains to/from York
- Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 November – No trains to/from York
- Saturday 25 October to Sunday 2 November (including weekdays) – No trains between York and Knaresborough
- Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 November – The only Northern trains are between York and Leeds (via Harrogate)
- Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 November – The only Northern trains are between York and Leeds (via Harrogate)
- Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 November – The only Northern trains are between York and Leeds (via Harrogate)
Replacement buses will run, but they will take longer than usual and may be very busy at the start and end of the day.

Impact on Other Train Operators
Almost all train services at York will be affected between Saturday 25 October and Sunday 23 November.
- There will be no CrossCountry, LNER, or TransPennine Express (TPE) trains stopping at York on these dates.
- The only exception is a reduced TPE service between York and Scarborough.
- If you’re traveling to places like Newcastle, London, Leeds, Sheffield, or Hull, please check your journey carefully before you travel.
- Bus replacement services will be less frequent and busier than usual. You might need to connect via stations such as Leeds, Wakefield or Doncaster.

Rail replacement Bus
The services listed will be partially or fully ran via a rail replacement bus. Click on routes to see the impact.
Days the route will be impacted:
- Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October
- Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 November
- Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 November
- Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 November
- Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 November
Trains will run between Leeds and Micklefield only.
Rail replacement buses will operate between Micklefield and York.
Direct buses will also operate between Leeds and York. Your train tickets are valid on these bus services.
Days the route will be impacted:
- Saturday 25 October – Tuesday 2 November
Engineering improvement work at Cattal means buses replace trains between York and Knaresborough for the full 11 days.
Trains will continue to run between Knaresborough – Harrogate – Leeds.
Days the route will be impacted:
- Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October
- Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 November
- Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 November
- Sunday 16 November
- Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 November
There will be no direct train services at weekends between Saturday 25 October - Sunday 9 November.
Rail replacement buses will operate between York and Selby or Micklefield.
