Eskmeals Viaduct works
Whitehaven - Sellafield - Millom engineering works between 7 - 22 September 2024
Network rail is continuing to improve the 18-span Eskmeals Viaduct across the River Esk estuary.
This will require the closure of the railway line between Whitehaven/Sellafield and Millom with rail replacement buses in operation between Saturday 7 until Sunday 22 September 2024.
The railway line will also be closed through Barrow-in-Furness due to essential track maintenance, with rail replacement buses running between Ulverston, Barrow-in Furness and Millom.
The following train services are not impacted by these works and will run as normal:
- Morecambe, Lancaster, Skipton and Leeds
- Lancaster, Preston and Manchester Airport
- Windermere to Oxenholme
- Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express services calling at Oxenholme and Penrith
Saturday 7 until Monday 9 September 2024
Buses replace trains between:
- Ulverston & Barrow-in-Furness
- Barrow-in-Furness, Millom & Sellafield / Whitehaven
Trains will continue to run between:
- Manchester, Preston, Lancaster & Ulverston
- Sellafield / Whitehaven & Carlisle
Tuesday 10 until Sunday 22 September 2024
Buses replace trains between
- Millom & Sellafield / Whitehaven.
Trains will continue to run between:
- Manchester, Preston, Lancaster & Barrow-in-Furness
- Barrow-in-Furness & Millom
- Sellafield / Whitehaven & Carlisle
