Manchester Airport - removal of ticket restrictions
Due to disruption to flights to/from the Middle East, some ticket restrictions have been removed
Due to disruption to flights to/from the Middle East, all customers travelling to Manchester Airport for flights to countries in the Middle East are advised not to travel.
Ticket restrictions have been removed on Northern services from Manchester Airport for customers with pre-booked rail tickets returning on flights from the region.
If your flight lands earlier or later than planned:
- You can use your rail ticket on the day you land, even if the date on your ticket is different.
- Any time restrictions on your ticket will be removed.
- If your flight arrives late in the day and you cannot reasonably complete your rail journey the same day, you can use your ticket the following day.
If your flight is diverted and you land at Manchester Airport rather than the airport you expected:
- You can travel on Northern services and continue to your original destination.
- You can use your rail ticket on the day you land, even if it is for a different date.
- Any time restrictions on your ticket will be removed.
- If your flight arrives late and you cannot reasonably complete your journey that day, you can travel the following day.
Please be ready to show proof of travel from a Middle Eastern country, such as your flight ticket, rebooking confirmation or airline notification.
If your flight to a Middle Eastern country has been cancelled and you need to return home or no longer travel:
- You will not be charged an admin fee when requesting a refund for unused tickets, even if your ticket is normally non-refundable.
- If you started your journey but had to return home due to a cancelled flight, you will receive a full refund, and the admin fee will be waived.
- Tickets must be to/from an airport station or the nearest appropriate airport‑serving station.
Please provide proof of your cancelled flight (e.g. a booking confirmation showing a planned trip to a Middle Eastern country).

- Bahrain
- Iran
- Iraq
- Israel
