Ilkley - Leeds and Bradford Forster Square
What work is taking place?
Network Rail is carrying out important maintenance work work on Springs Tunnel near Guiseley between Saturday 21 and Sunday 29 October. This work is part of Network Rail’s heavy maintenance and renewals programme for the Leeds NW routes with this specific work item having been identified as a result of routine structural surveys. The route from Apperley Junction to Ilkley was first opened by the Midland Railway in approximately 1865 and Springs Tunnel, now 152 years old, is showing its age suffering from significant cracking and spalling of the brickwork structure.
How will services operate?
Leeds-Ilkley services will be diverted via Shipley, increasing journey times by up to 20 minutes, and the Monday to Saturday Bradford Forster Square-Ilkley service will be suspended requiring passengers to/from Bradford to change trains at Shipley.
Whilst every effort has been taken to maintain existing departure times and service frequencies, the lengthened journey times via the diversionary route including the single line section through Baildon and negotiation of the busy junction at Shipley has necessitated some changes, particularly to departure times from Ilkley.
Recognising that the existing service pattern has been disrupted, a number of coach replacement services will run during peak hours to supplement the amended train service
A revised timetable will be available for download here 2 weeks prior to the work the work starting.
