As a result of the continuing impact of COVID-19 we will be running an amended temporary timetable.
Everyone at Northern is working to provide the best possible rail service during this difficult time, but it is simply not possible to operate our usual timetable. Where we are not able to run trains we will seek to provide rail replacement road transport.
If you choose to travel by train please travel safe. You must wear a face covering on board the train and in the station (unless a medical condition or disability prevents you), try to avoid busy periods varying your usual travel times to prevent crowding and check the times of your journey before you travel.
If you are showing any Coronavirus symptoms, however mild, you must self-isolate along with other members of your household. The latest Public Health England advice is available here.
From 14 September 2020
Northern is set to introduced new timetables as the entire rail industry adapts to a ‘new normal’ as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. These Timetables can be found at www.northernrailway.co.uk/timetables.
Introduced on Monday 14 September, the timetables will deliver more services in many areas and will extend operating hours in others.
On a very small number of routes there will be no increases and, for a handful, a reduction in services.
The timetables don’t represent a return to pre-COVID service levels, but do reflect the challenges facing Northern and the changing demands of customers, many of whom will be returning to schools and workplaces for the first time in several months.
We are doing all we can to provide the best possible service for customers across the network. Many members of staff have been shielding and the knock-on effects of the virus will be felt for many months.
With limited resources, the timetables have been designed to put all our available staff in the right places at the right times to keep as many people as possible on the move without risking reduced punctuality and reliability.
If you choose to travel by train, please travel safe.
Northern's temporary timetables will appear below in PDF downloadable form when available:
Please note these are subject to change. It is advisable to plan your journey using National Rail Journey Planner for the most accurate service. You can also personalise a timetable for your route, by using the National Rail timetable creator.
