Disruption due to loss of signalling around Wigan North Western

Due to theft of signalling cables between Wigan North Western and Preston fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

Our advice to you

Customers at Liverpool Lime Street, Wigan North Western and Preston should use alternative Northern services via Manchester and Bolton to complete their journey. 

Alternative Northern services are available between Preston and Blackpool North in both directions. 

Northern tickets may be used at no additional cost on board Avanti West Coast services between Wigan North Western and Preston in both directions until the end of the day Thursday 21st August.

Road replacement transport: 

To assist customers complete their journey, road replacement transport will operate as follows:

Wigan North Western to Preston calling at Euxton Balshaw Lane, Leyland and Preston.

15:30 / 16:30 / 17:30 / 18:30 / 19:30

Preston to Wigan North Western calling at Leyland, Euxton Balshaw Lane and Wigan North Western.

15:45 / 16:45 / 17:45 / 18:45 / 19:45

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (exc service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport. 

Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes when using road replacement transport.
