Nicknamed the "Wool Capital of the World," the town boomed during the Industrial Revolution, with its mills attracting workers and shaping the industry's landscape. You can still see echoes of this industrial past in the stunning architecture within the city, like the magnificent Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a testament to Victorian ingenuity. This is a model village built by Sir Titus Salt and is also home to Salts Mill, a former textile mill which has been converted into a museum, art gallery and shopping centre.

Another town worth a visit is Bingley, known for its Five Rise Locks, a series of staircase locks on the canal that raise or lower boats by a total of 60 feet - it's a feat of engineering and a fascinating glimpse into the area's industrial past. The outdoorsy types will love St. Ives Estate and the Bingley Moor, both wonderful places to explore on foot. Both towns offer a unique glimpse into the history and culture of West Yorkshire.
