Satisfy a thirst for rail travel and real ale while taking in some of the finest scenery in Peak District, perhaps stopping to visit Little John's grave and the start of the Pennine Way.
Set up by two friends from Chesterfield, the Hope Valley Real Ale Trail starts in Sheffield at the Sheffield Tap, appropriately located at Platform 1B in Sheaf Street, and continues towards Manchester, ending at New Mills. Take your pick from 20 real ale pubs en route at nine stations including Hathersage, where Little John reputedly dug his own grave under a yew tree in the churchyard, and Edale, the start of the 267-mile mile Pennine Way to the Scottish border. You could also get off at Dore, Grindleford,Bamford, Hope, Chinley and New Mills to discover all 20 pubs, but perhaps not all on the same day.
