Railway re-opens following Roby landslip

05 October 2020
The rail line between Liverpool and Manchester (via Newton le Willows) has reopened following a landslip earlier this evening.

Trains were suspended on the route for several hours after the landslip was reported at around 4.45pm on Monday 5 October.

Services are still subject to delays and cancellations as it will take some time until the network is fully recovered. On the route between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street some services will be replaced by coaches.

Customers travelling between Liverpool and Manchester may still travel via Warrington using either Northern or East Midlands Railway services, while customers travelling from Earlestown/Newton le Willows to Manchester can use Northern tickets to travel on Transport for Wales services.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this evening’s disruption.

“Colleagues across the industry have worked hard to provide a service for customers travelling on the affected routes and I’m grateful for all the efforts to get people where they needed to be.”

Delay Repay compensation is available for any customers whose journeys were delayed by 15 minutes or longer this evening.
