Poor weather means Northern advises customers not to travel on some routes

14 January 2021

Customers asked not to travel between Leeds and Bradford/Ilkley/Skipton/Harrogate
Services from Leeds severely disrupted by adverse weather
Delays and cancellations possible across entire Northern network

Northern is advising customers not to travel on a number of routes in Yorkshire following weather-related incidents on the network.

Snow and heavy rain are causing disruption across much of the east of the country and some routes are blocked as a result of the adverse weather.

Snow and ice also mean it is not possible to operate rail replacement buses which would normally run following an incident on the railway.

Customers are currently advised not to travel on the following lines:

  • Leeds – Bradford Forster Square
  • Leeds – Skipton
  • Leeds – Ilkley
  • Leeds – Harrogate
  • Sheffield – Manchester

A spokesperson for Northern said: “The adverse weather is having a significant impact on our ability to operate services, particularly in Yorkshire where heavy snow continues to fall.

“We are working closely with colleagues at Network Rail to get our services up and running as soon as possible. In the meantime, we’re asking customers not to travel on the specified routes until further notice.”

The spokesperson added: “The difficult conditions are being experienced across a large part of our network and customers planning to travel today should be aware that any journeys could be affected. We’re advising, therefore, that anyone making a train journey today checks ahead and allows extra time for travel.”
