Northern’s Saltburn Food Festival plans are a recipe for success

Northern has put gastronomy top of its agenda with robust plans to get people to and from the Saltburn Food Festival this weekend.

Essential improvement work being carried out by Network Rail means the railway will be closed from Thursday 27 July to Tuesday 1 August, with rail passengers being urged to plan ahead.

Although Northern services will only be running as far as Redcar Central due to the engineering works, visitors to the Saltburn Food Festival on Sunday 30 July can still travel with confidence.

Northern has organised hundreds of rail replacement buses across the weekend and, on Sunday, they will run directly to and from Saltburn from both Middlesbrough and Redcar railway stations. Passengers with valid rail tickets to Saltburn will be able to use the buses, and Northern staff will be on hand to help guide and advise customers on the day.

Mike Paterson, Regional Director for Northern, said: “This is vital work between Middlesbrough and Saltburn and we have worked closely with Network Rail to minimise the disruption to our customers.

“We have also worked hard to give our customers alternative travel options to ensure they can still get to Saltburn to enjoy the prestigious food festival. We will be running express rail replacement buses between Saltburn and Middlesbrough and stopping buses between Saltburn and Redcar Central.

“There will be lots of options for our customers, but it will be a busy weekend and we expect all our services to be extremely popular. People should, therefore, plan their journey carefully and check before they travel.”

Saltburn Food Festival Director Lorna Jackson said: “Northern has really stepped up by providing a good solution to what could otherwise have been a potential problem.

“By running express buses from both Redcar and Middlesbrough train stations, and a 'stopping bus' from Redcar to Saltburn, it means there is no need for anyone to drive when they would normally catch a train.

“So we're looking forward to a busy and enjoyable day, with some good public transport options for people who fancy giving the car a day off.”
