Northern Lights Appear At Stations

LOCAL TRAIN STATIONS UNDERGO A CREATIVE MAKEOVER FOR FESTIVAL

Northern, part of the Arriva group, and TransPennine Express (TPE) are delighted to have been involved with the inaugural Mossley Light Festival.

The festival, which took place on Thursday 24 November, wasa celebration of art that explores the power of light to transform people and places. It included a lantern parade and the switching on of Mossley’s Christmas lights.

Numerous paintings, from the ‘Northern Lights’ series by Mossley based artist Chris Cyprus, are temporarily displayed at Mossley station for the festival. Produced by Global Grooves, the exhibition is showcasing bespoke artwork representing local scenes on the Manchester-bound platform, as well as the waiting room, and has visually transformed the station environment into a colourful masterpiece.

Stalybridge station, managed by TPE, also supported the festival and a number of artworks have been displayed in the station subway.

Matthew Worman, Stakeholder Manager for Northern, commented “This is a great community project, which we are really pleased to be a part of. Stations can be fairly drab environments and have so much more to offer than just being places where trains stop, so we are delighted to have an opportunity inject some creativity into them. I'd encourage people to support the festival in its first year and hope they enjoy the installations. Whether you're a rail passenger, local resident, or art follower, the exhibition at Mossley station is certainly an illuminating and memorable experience!"

Billy Vickers, TPE Station Manager for Stalybridge said: “We are delighted to be involved with this unique event and I’m personally thrilled that Stalybridge station has been selected as one of the exhibition locations.

“We are committed to supporting the arts and have recently partnered with neon-artist, Julia Bickerstaff as part of our ‘Where Next?’ project, a four-month mentorship scheme for talented individuals from across the North.

“We hope that customers enjoy these colourful pieces of art which will add a splash of colour to the station subway.”
