How to claim your free ticket

  1. Go to the ticket booking widget at the top of this page. You have received a free unlimited day travel ticket, so you do not need to submit your start and end station, we have prefilled this for you
  2. Select the date of travel (Please note that the code you have been provided will provide free travel for one adult only)
  3. Select “Do you have a promo code?”
  4. Remove the scratch-off layer which hides your unique promotional code on the card you received and type it in to the box that has appeared
  5. Click “Search train tickets” and select your ticket.

How to get your tickets

Tickets can issued in two ways:

  • E-ticket – this is an electronic ticket which will be emailed to you in a PDF format which can be displayed on your mobile device or printed at home. The E-ticket can also be stored in your Apple wallet or in the Northern app if you have created an account with Northern.
  • Ticket on departure – a physical ticket which can be collected from one of our self-service ticket vending machines or from any ticket office, using a collection code that is emailed to you. You must bring a valid bank card, even though the ticket is free, and your card will not be charged,. This is just to activate the collection process

Frequently asked questions

It’s a special thank you from Northern to customers who’ve made a positive impact on one of our team members. You’ll receive a free unlimited day travel ticket to use on our network. This will provide unlimited travel for one day on Northern Trains.

You’ll receive a unique code or link from a Northern team member via a card they will provide you. Follow the link via the QR code on the card and use the instructions provided on the webpage to book your ticket online or via the Northern app.

Your ticket is valid for travel for one day between 2 January and 1 July 2026 but must be booked by 1 April 2026.

You must travel on the Northern network only. The code you have provided means you’re eligible for one day of unlimited travel on any Northern route.

No, tickets issued through this promotion are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Promoter: The promoter of this promotion is Northern Trains Limited (trading as Northern), registered at George Stephenson House, Toft Green, York, YO1 6JT (the “Promoter”).
  2. Start Date: The promotion begins on 2 January 2026.
  3. Qualifying Ticket: A “Qualifying Ticket” is defined as any unlimited day travel ticket redeemed online via northernrailway.co.uk or through the Promoter’s mobile app on or after the Start Date. Tickets must be valid for travel between 2 January and 1 July 2026 (inclusive) on the Northern network.
  4. The promotional offer is only valid for redemptions made on or before 1 April 2026.
  5. Ticket Limit: One Qualifying Ticket per person is permitted under this promotion.
  6. Up to two children under the age of 5 may travel free with each adult holding a Qualifying Ticket.
  7. Terms of Redemption: All redemptions of Qualifying Tickets are subject to the Promoter’s standard terms and conditions, available at:

  8. Availability: Qualifying Tickets must be redeemed more than three days in advance of travel and are available while stocks last.
  9. Railcard Exclusion: Qualifying Tickets cannot be redeemed in conjunction with a Railcard.
  10. Travel Restrictions: Qualifying Tickets are valid only on the date booked by the passenger and shown on the ticket. Passengers must travel exclusively on Northern Trains as shown on the ticket.
  11. Refunds and Exchanges: Qualifying Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged.
  12. National Rail Conditions: Travel on Northern services is subject to the National Rail Conditions of Travel.
  13. Right to Withdraw or Amend: The Promoter reserves the right to amend, suspend, or withdraw the promotion at any time without prior notice.
  14. Disqualification: The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any participant found to be abusing the promotion, acting fraudulently, or otherwise not complying with these Terms and Conditions.
