Travel advice for football fans heading to Barnsley FC home games

A new walking route has been implemented on match days to help manage the flow of fans through the station

Football fans attending Barnsley FC home games at Oakwell Stadium are being asked to use a new walking route from Barnsley railway station to the stadium.

A new route has been put in place to manage the flow of fans through the station on match days when Barnsley play at home. The station footbridge will be closed from one hour before the start of a match until one hour after the final whistle.

To reach Oakwell Stadium fans are advised to walk via Eldon St / Eldon St Nth / Schwabisch Gmund Way, or alternatively walk via May Day Green / Cheapside / Lambra Rd / Pontefract Rd. The walking route is fully signposted and is supported by Barnsley FC and South Yorkshire Police.

Alan Hope, Station Manager for Northern said: “Match days are extremely busy at Barnsley station and the new walking route will allow us to keep our customers on the move and everyone as safe as possible.”
