Northern to introduce extra ticket checks and crowd control measures at Lytham station this week for people heading to Lytham Festival

The train operator says revenue officers will be supporting conductors and station staff by carrying out extra ticket checks on trains and at stations along the line.

Due to the number of festival goers expected to arrive and depart by train, special crowd control measures will also be put in place at Lytham station to ensure customer safety.

Lytham Festival takes place from Wednesday to Sunday (3-7 July) with Hozier, Shania Twain, The Courteeners, James and Madness among the line-up.

Craig Harrop, regional director for Northern, said: “Lytham station is just a five-minute walk from the festival site and the train is a great way to get to the event.

“However, we know from experience that all major events encourage some people to think they’ll get away with not buying a ticket for their journey.

“By reminding people in advance that ticket checks will be taking place, we hope less people will attempt to travel without a ticket.”

Passengers arriving into Lytham on the train will be provided with special credit card-sized timetables advising people of the last two services from Lytham to Blackpool South and Preston

Northern has invested in the largest network of digital ticket infrastructure of any train operator in the country, making it easier than ever to buy a ticket via their app, website, one of more than 600 ticket machines across the network and ticket offices too.

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with nearly 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
