Manchester skyline celebrated in HUGE new artwork at Victoria Station

A passenger footbridge at Manchester Victoria station has become the unlikely setting for the city’s latest public art installation.

Entitled #IconicManchester, the work is by the Mancunian artist, Dez, who is also known as LoveArtPix. He is a creative artist that was diagnosed with bipolar in his 20s and campaigns to break the stigma around mental illness and autism.

His new work is split into eleven equal size panels and features iconic buildings from across the city centre.

Centre stage is an image of Manchester Victoria itself, which sits alongside images of the station’s immediate neighbours: The Printworks, Hotel Indigo, the National Football Museum and Withy Grove Stores.

Also featuring are Manchester Central Library, Basil Chambers, Hotel Gotham, the former Debenham’s department store on Market Street, the Sashas Hotel and the Co-operative Group HQ, One Angel Square.

Chris Jackson, regional director for Northern, who manage the station on behalf of Network Rail, said: “This amazing piece of art is a great addition to the station interior and something I know our passengers will enjoy admiring as they travel through the station every day. Dez has really captured the featured buildings well. They’re as Manchester as you get.”

Dez added: “I use art as my own personal therapy and coping strategy. I believe that many other people with mental health issues and autism could also benefit from expressive art and I want to help promote this.

“This work at Manchester Victoria was easily my biggest project to date and I was really excited to get creating something that would bring some colour to the bridge. I hope the work creates a positive mood on the people using the station each day.”

Northern operates more than 2,000 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
