Buxton station given summer shine

Northern and a team of extraordinary volunteers have given Buxton station a summer shine!

During Thursday 3 August Northern joined forces with the Friends of Buxton Station, Network Rail and Carillion to ensure the station is well-groomed for customers.

Vicky Cropper, Community and Sustainability Manager at Northern, said: “We had a fabulous day at Buxton and with the help of our colleagues and volunteers were able to make a real difference to the station.”

The hard-working heroes moved a dry stone wall from the car park in readiness for the stones being used to create a Japanese garden on the platform. They also painted seating, weeded the planters and cleared all undergrowth and other unwanted plants and weeds from the platform.

Vicky added: “Our stations are, in many places, a focal point for communities and the gateway to so many towns and villages across the north of England.

“In carrying out our volunteer days we are not only utilising our own staff to give stations a spruce, we are also giving local communities the chance to take ownership and get involved.

“I can’t thank enough those who lent a hand last week and I’m sure all Northern customers and visitors to Buxton will reap the rewards of such hard work.”
