New timetables and planned disruption

Blackpool is open for business

20 October 2017
Blackpool is open for business.
That’s the call from Northern and Blackpool Council who are working in partnership during vital engineering work on the Blackpool to Preston lines.

Work is being carried out, as part of the Great Rail North Project, to make the railway bigger and better to carry the ever-increasing number of people who are travelling by train across the north of England.

The engineering is set to last for 19 weeks with buses replacing the usual timetabled rail services.

Sharon Keith, Regional Director at Northern, said: “We have worked closely with Blackpool Council to develop bus timetables that will keep customers on the move and ensure all visitors can get to and from one of Britain’s favourite seaside towns.

“Express buses will run every 15 minutes from both Blackpool and Poulton direct to Preston. We will also have a stopping service, calling at all stations, which will also run every 15 minutes.

“With so many services every day – and further standby buses to call on should we experience particularly busy periods – there can be little doubt that Blackpool will remain open for business.

Councillor Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, added: “A huge amount of advance planning has gone into ensuring people’s journey times suffer the least possible disruption during these vitally important rail improvement works.

“We are delighted that the town’s own bus company is providing some of the rail replacement services in and out of Preston during the temporary closure of Blackpool’s two stations and we are confident that their expertise and excellent customer service standards will minimise any impact on travel plans.

“We want everyone to know that Blackpool is very much open for business throughout the period of the rail electrification works with an expansive programme of shows, attractions and events.”
