For nine days between Saturday 16 until Sunday 24 March, the Hope Valley line will be closed whilst the railway is upgraded as part of the Hope Valley Rail Upgrade programme.

This work will also affect Sheffield station, with a much smaller number of platforms available only for longer distance trains to use. This means our trains may be diverted, with part of your journey replaced by buses.

Buses replace Northern trains between:

  • Moorthorpe to York via Pontefract Monkhill
  • Gainsborough Lea Road to Cleethorpes via Gainsborough Central and Brigg
  • Sheffield to New Mills via the Hope Valley
  • Sheffield, Dronfield and Chesterfield.

Northern trains will not be running between Sheffield and Nottingham, but East Midlands Railway trains will call additionally at Alfreton, Langley Mill and Ilkeston during this time.

TransPenine Express trains will also be diverted via Huddersfield, with replacement buses running direct between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly. CrossCountry trains will be diverted between Sheffield and  Chesterfield.

Thanks for bearing with us whilst this upgrade takes place.
