• The Season Ticket and Non Season Ticket Additional Compensation Schemes (together the “Schemes”) are available for season ticket customers and regular travellers (3 or more days a week) on the specified routes (a route includes all stations on that route) whose journeys were significantly affected between 1 April 2018 and 30 June 2018. The specified routes and further details of the Schemes are available here www.northernrailway.co.uk/compensation
  • The amount of compensation available will depend on the type of season ticket or the number of days travelled for Non Season Ticket holders and the route it is valid on
  • Proof of purchase will be required in order to determine the level of compensation due. For a “Level 1” refund (as detailed in the document available at www.northernrailway.co.uk/regular-travellers) evidence of a minimum of 12 days of travel is required. If you have evidence of less that 12 days of travel you may still be eligible for a “Level 2” refund (of up to 5 days)
  • Journeys must have been made, or have the ability to have been made, on a Northern service in order to qualify
  • Tickets additionally offering travel on other modes of transport, “multi-modal” tickets, will be accepted providing the eligibility criteria is met
  • Tickets specifically for use on other Train Operators, as detailed in the ‘Route’ section of the ticket, are not eligible and only those that specify ‘Any Permitted’ or do not name another Train Operator will be eligible for compensation
  • Only one application for compensation under the Schemes is allowed per customer. Multiple season ticket claims, or claims for both Level 1 and Level 2 compensation, should be included in one application
  • Customers making applications under the Schemes will not be eligible under the similar schemes administered by Transpennine Express for the same journeys. Similarly, customers claiming under the Transpennine Express scheme will not be eligible to apply under the Schemes where the claim relates to the same journeys
  • Claim information (including personal data) may be shared between Northern and Transpennine Express, and their processor Journeycall, in order to prevent multiple and/or fraudulent claims across the two schemes
  • Ticket numbers and sales information checks will be conducted on claims to support validation of travel
  • The opening date for applications on the Season Ticket Scheme is 00.30 on Thursday 12 July 2018 and for the Non-Season Ticket Scheme on 06.30 on Tuesday 9th October. The closing date for both Schemes is 23.59 on Tuesday 4 December 2018. Northern accepts no liability for and will not consider any applications that are received after the closing date
  • Applying for the additional compensation under the Schemes does not affect your eligibility for claiming Delay Repay or limit any other rights you may have as a consumer, for example, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you have already made a claim for delays to journeys covered by the Schemes under Delay Repay or otherwise this does not affect your eligibility to make an application for compensation under the Schemes
  • Claims for compensation can be made via the Northern website or the dedicated Customer helpline 03332220126. Visit www.northernrailway.co.uk/compensation for more information and to find out which routes qualify under Additional Compensation Schemes
