All correspondence will be sent to the e-mail address you have supplied on your application form. From time to time we may contact you by phone.

When you are offered a role, we will send you a conditional offer of employment subject to satisfactory references and medical. We request employment references to cover the previous 2 years and these will be requested once you have started in the role. As soon as we have received satisfactory references and have satisfactory medical results, we will send you an unconditional offer of employment.

Northern has a very strict alcohol and drugs policy which must be adhered to at all times. All applicants must go through this process before an unconditional offer of employment can be made, as well as a pre-employment medical questionnaire. Roles which are of a safety critical nature will need to have a thorough examination to ensure that they are fit enough to do their job as well as their eyesight and hearing is to the relevant standard.

You can only have two attempts at the assessments. If you fail on your first attempt, you must wait a minimum of 6 months from the time of taking the assessment until you re-sit it. We would therefore recommend that you wait 6 months before making a new application for a Driver or Conductor role.

If you attend an interview or Selection Event, you will be contacted by email within 10 days to advise whether or not you have been progressed to the next stage in the Recruitment Process.

If you have been progressed we will contact you further by phone or email to let you know what happens next.

When you log into your home page, you will see the applications that you have made. If your application status shows 'New Submitted Application', this means that it has been received. If your application status shows 'Application not submitted', please ensure that all sections of the form have been completed before you click the 'submit' button. You won't be able to submit an application once the closing date for the role has passed.

We respond to every application that we receive to advise you whether you have been progressed to the next stage in the recruitment process. Due to the volume of applications we receive, this may take up to 28 days. Please bear with us while your application is considered and rest assured that we will be in touch via email to advise whether you have made it to the next stage.
