What is a flexi-season ticket?

A Flexi-Season ticket is a bulk purchase of 10 all-day tickets, offering significant time and monetary savings for occasional commuters.

Can I buy a flexi-season ticket for my route?

Flexi-seasons are currently only available for travel between the following two stations: Blackburn <> Bolton; Bolton <> Salford Central; Bolton <> Salford Crescent.

No intermediate stations will permit this product for now. We will be adding lots more routes in the coming months.

How long are my tickets valid for?

Flexi-season tickets are valid for up to 26 weeks (6 months) from the date of purchase of the bundle.

How many times can I travel on each daily ticket?

A flexi-season ticket allows unlimited travel on the day of activation between the origin and destination stations shown on the ticket. A break of journey is not permitted along the route of the ticket at this moment.

Can I use my Railcard to obtain further discount?

Flexi-seasons already include a 10% saving versus individual Standard Anytime Day Returns. There are no additional railcard or child discounts, or further discounts if travelling off peak or at weekends.

Can I claim under the Delay Repay scheme?

Yes, do so here. Your rights under delay repay are exactly the same.

How do I buy a flexi-season ticket?

Flexi-season tickets can only be purchased with a Smart card and via the Northern website or mobile app.

Do I need a Smart card to purchase a flexi-season ticket?

Yes. You can order your free, personalised card here which will be delivered in 2-3 days.

How do I load/collect the flexi-season ticket I have just purchased?

Use the Northern app for rapid collection to your card, available 5 minutes after purchase. Alternatively, please allow up to 2 hours to load the tickets to your card at the ticket gates or Northern ticket machine at your nearest station.

How can I tell how many tickets are left in my bundle?

Do so by logging in to MyAccount, using the NFC reader on the Northern app or at a ticket machine.

How do I renew my bundle?

Bundles can be renewed via the ticket portal or the app. Any remaining tickets within their expiry date will be carried over with the new 26-week expiry date.

How do I travel with my flexi-season ticket?

You must tap-in and tap-out at the ticket barrier at either end of your journey to activate your ticket. Failure to do so could result in a penalty fare. A customer boarding a train without tapping in first is considered to not have a valid ticket. 

What should I do if the ticket barriers are out of order?

Please tap-in and tap-out as normal. Northern colleagues will also be on hand to help.

Can I get a discount?

Only if purchased by accident and unused. Please contact the Customer Experience Centre on 0333 2220127.

What do I do if I have problems with my Smart card or loading a ticket?

If you encounter an issue with your card or Smart season ticket call our Customer Experience Centre on 0333 2220127. Station colleagues should also be on hand to help.
