A Season Ticket for Northern’s train service is a simple way to save money on your regular journeys. Created to be used multiple times, passengers can choose from weekly, monthly or annual season tickets, along with more specialised offers, such as the Flexi Season Ticket for people who only commute 2 or 3 times a week, or the Corporate Season Ticket.

How to save with Season Tickets

Allowing you discounts on the journeys you make regularly, Season Tickets give you unlimited travel between two points, and free weekend travel on the same route.

Designed to highlight the best deal and make choosing the right ticket simple, Northern’s

Season Ticket Calculator will quickly calculate which Season Tickets are best for your requirements and how much money you can save.

Season Tickets will save you money and time, allowing you a hassle-free journey, and if you choose a durable Smart Season Ticket over the more traditional paper version, you’ll also be saving trees, and keeping safe with contactless travel.

If your workplace offers a hybrid model of working, as many do now, a Flexi Season Ticket is ideal. Allowing you 8 days of travel between two named stations over a 28 day period, this Season Ticket gives a great range of flexibility as those days don’t have to be decided in advance. Only paying for the days you travel, there are big savings to be made.

Northern’s Corporate Season Ticket Scheme is free for companies to join, and allows employers to offer their workforce discounts on their regular train journeys to and from their place of work. The scheme provides staff with a loan that’s interest-free, to buy an Annual Season Ticket, which is repaid through affordable monthly salary deductions. Quick and easy to apply for, you’ll receive 3 months free train travel when you buy an Annual Season Ticket.

Things to consider when buying a Season Ticket

If you can, it’s generally better value to purchase a Season Ticket with a longer duration. For example, an Annual Season Ticket covering 52 weeks can actually cost the same as 40 Weekly Season Tickets, meaning you can enjoy 12 weeks of free travel.

The discounts offered by Season Tickets are based on standard adult fares. If you want to upgrade to First Class, and enjoy an even more luxurious train ride, just pay the difference, either online, via the free mobile app, or in person at the station.

FAQs

Season Tickets are designed to save you money and effort.

If you make the same journey regularly, it’s well worth looking at getting a Season Ticket. An Annual Season Ticket gives you 3 months free travel, and is far cheaper than buying 12 monthly tickets, while a Weekly Season Ticket is much more cost effective than 5 daily tickets.

Not only do Season Tickets save you money, but by eliminating the need to purchase individual tickets, you can avoid queuing and just relax on the train.

There is no right or wrong time to purchase your Season Tickets.

If you choose to buy online or through the free phone app, the process takes less than a minute and is so easy - just follow the on-screen instructions to buy the Season Ticket that most suits your needs.

If you prefer, you can buy your ticket at your local train station. If the ticket office is open, the staff will answer any questions you may have, and for unmanned stations, there will be a ticket machine where you can buy your Season Ticket.
