Car parking facilities are available at stations throughout the Northern network.

At some station car parks, there is a small charge. 

Contactless payments is available at some stations by using RingGo. Where ticket offices are available car parking tickets can be purchased at the ticket office.

To use this service, you can download the free RingGo app from theApp StoreorGoogle Play Store where it can be viewed in several different languages.

Yes, you can get Weekly, Monthly and Annual passes which can purchased from the ticket office, where available, or through RingGo.

A season ticket will not guarantee you a parking space at your chosen station car park

Parking is FREE for blue badge holders using designated disabled bays. When using the disabled bays make sure that your blue badge is clearly visible and not obstructed. 

Free Park & Ride car parks where provided are for Rail users only and are subject to Railway Byelaws. Regular patrols of car parks take place and enforcement may take place at any time.  

Introduction of car parking charges at 10 stations

From Monday 11 December, we’re introducing parking charges at more stations on our network to help maximise car park capacity for rail users.

Costs will be a maximum of £2 per day, with some locations offering a short-stay option for 50p and resident permits for parking from 4pm to 8am. As is the case in our other locations, we’ll be using RingGo to ensure payments can be made through an app, online, and by phone. 

Charges will apply to Northern car parks at the following locations:

  • Alnmouth
  • Buckshaw Parkway
  • Burscough Bridge
  • Cononley
  • Euxton Balshaw Lane
  • Poppleton
  • Poulton le Fylde
  • Snaith
  • Weeton
  • Wylam


Why is Northern introducing car parking charges at these locations?
We’re introducing charges at these locations to ensure that our car parking facilities remain available for rail users only, as well as to align these stations with our other locations that saw the introduction of charges in 2022.


When are we introducing these charges?
Charges will come into effect from Monday 11 December 2023.

How much will parking be?
The maximum tariff proposed with be £2.00 per day, with out-of-hours arrangements at each location. You can view the full list of tariffs and when they apply in the table below:

Can I pay without a smartphone?
There will be an option to pay over the phone and pay online at home.


Will I be able to pay with cash?
In line with many councils and parking companies, our machines will be cashless. You will be able to pay on the phone and pay online via a smart phone or at home. 


Will I be able to pay for parking at stations or on-board our services?
You will be able to pay for parking at the station ticket office where you are parked (check opening hours) however you will not be able to pay for parking on board any of our trains. You must pay using phone/smartphone/app if the ticket office is not open. 


Will Northern be introducing car parking charges at any other locations?
We know that the introduction of charges might be unwelcome news for some customers and colleagues, and we’re committed to keeping our car park arrangements under review to ensure they meet the needs of colleagues and customers alike.
