Newcastle Train Station facilities

Newcastle train station information

Newcastle train station has been a key part of the city since the 1800s, when it first opened its doors under the name "Newcastle Railway Station." The station was inaugurated by Queen Victoria herself on 29th August 1850, which has remained a public holiday in Newcastle ever since.

The station we know today came to life in 1906, with its gorgeous glass roof and classic Edwardian Baroque design that still turns heads. It’s not just a station; it’s a landmark and Grade I listed building, as well as the first covered train station in the world.

Over time, the station has continued to modernise, with updates in recent decades to improve accessibility and passenger experience. Today, Newcastle train station remains one of the North East’s busiest and most important transport hubs, offering excellent connections to various destinations in the UK.
