South Bank Train Station facilities

South Bank Station, on the outskirts of the northern town of Middlesbrough, opened in 1984 to serve the surrounding industrial sector. On the Tees Valley Line, between Saltburn and Bishop Aukland, the current station was preceded by Eston, which occupied the site from 1853.

Enjoying a footfall of nearly 30,000 passengers every year, South Bank’s two platforms have undergone a major refurbishment in recent years with improved waiting facilities, complete with CCTV, clearer signage and a new PA system, making it easier for passengers to hear the announcements.

If you’re travelling to South Bank or Middlesbrough by train, you’ll find it easy to save money with the range of available Northern tickets, such as Off-Peak, for catching the train outside the busy commuter times, or Advance fares if you’re happy to plan ahead.
