Shopping in York: Coney Street

As one of York’s key shopping destinations, Coney Street is home to a host of familiar high street retailers that stand in the same place Viking once traded, offering tourists and locals a chance to shop in opulent historic surroundings. Newgate Market, or ‘The Shambles Market’ is a vibrant and diverse market situated right in the heart of York’s historic city centre. With 85 stalls offering a huge selection of goods from delicious fresh produce, to unique arts and crafts and everything in between, Newgate Market is a fabulous place to soak up some of the local atmosphere and culture.
If the market’s day-to-day offering wasn’t enough, there are also monthly makers markets, showcasing the latest creations from a variety of local artisans and craftspeople. Once you’ve spent your morning or afternoon enjoying everything the market has to offer, you can sample some of the culinary delights from the resident stall holders. Shopping in York: Low Petergate

As any York local will tell you, Low Petergate is a hotbed of boutique and chic fashion outlets, with a variety of local favourites, as well as household-name haute couture. Situated in the endearing, winding streets of Swinegate, the Low Petergate area is a great place to shop for items you’re not going to find elsewhere.
Fashion isn’t the only thing Low Petergate has to offer – with a wealth of cafes, bars and restaurants just a short walk away, it’s a great place for a more low-key shopping experience.
