SALFORD CENTRAL CLOSURE - Reopening Sunday 4 June

From Monday 02 January until Sunday 4 June 2023, Salford Central station will close, with trains passing through but not stopping, as Network Rail work to upgrade the platforms and canopies, making the station more accessible for everyone.

 

This work completes the first phase of improvements for the station. Further improvements are planned to take place in 2024.

How to get around during the closure

Use Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford or Deansgate stations

You can access the main rail network from Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford or Deansgate stations - all of these stations are within reach of Salford Central station.

 

Travelling to Salford Central?

During the closure period:

Journey planners will not permit you to purchase tickets to/from Salford Central station.

You will only be able to purchase tickets to/from Manchester Victoria or Salford Crescent stations.

Valid rail tickets to/from Manchester Victoria and Salford Crescent will be accepted for onward travel on the 67/67A/100 bus services via Salford Central at no additional cost in both directions.

  • Valid all day, every day during the closure period (2 January 2023 – 3 June 2023 inclusive)
  • Bus stops/pick-up points are directly outside each station
  • Frequency – every 8 minutes (during peak times)
  • Please show valid rail tickets to the bus driver

Get around on Manchester’s free bus services

Manchester’s free bus services are local services that operate around the city centre. All buses are wheelchair accessible and are free to use.

 

  • Service 1 provides a service between Salford Central and Manchester Piccadilly. All buses on this service depart from Gartside Street or from Deansgate by the John Ryland’s Library
  • Service 2 provides a daytime service between Salford Central, Whitworth Street (for Manchester Oxford Road), Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria. All buses on this service depart from Deansgate by the John Ryland’s Library
  • Service 3 broadly provides an evening service following service 2, but also serves Deansgate-Castlefield.

 

Services generally run every 10 minutes during the daytime on services 1 and 2. A 20-minute service is provided on routes 1 and 3 in the evenings. For more information, please visit tfgm.com/free-bus.

Ticket purchasing and accessibility

Salford Central ticket office will be closed during this time.

Should you need to buy or collect tickets, please use alternative Manchester stations (such as Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford Road, Salford Crescent and Deansgate ticket vending machines)  or use the Northern app.
