Customers with Advance Purchase ticket (your ticket will say ‘AP Northern only’) have a number of options:

  • You can travel on any available Northern service on your chosen route, but please be aware that the services are expected to be very busy.

  • You can use your ticket on Northern trains on either Monday 2 October or Wednesday 4 October for tickets dated Tuesday 3 October or Wednesday 4 October or Friday 6 October for tickets dated Thursday 5 October. Customers are advised to travel close to their original booked train times on these days.

  • Your Northern Advance Purchase ticket may well be accepted by other train operators on the date stated on your ticket only. A list of train operators that will accept Northern tickets will be available shortly.

  • If you decide not to travel on 3 or 5 October due to the strike, you are entitled to a full refund, without any admin charge. Refunds should be applied for at the original point of sale.

  • If you have an Advance Purchase ticket that has a connection to or from a Northern service (for example, if you are using a Northern service to connect to a long distance service to London), we expect other train operators will allow you to travel on their services on either Monday 2 October or Wednesday 4 October for tickets dated Tuesday 3 October or Wednesday 4 October or Friday 6 October for tickets dated Thursday 5 October. A list of train operators that will accept Northern tickets will be available shortly.

  • You will not need to change your ticket, but are advised to travel as close as possible to the original booked train times on other operator’s services that are available. Please note that industrial action will also affect Greater Anglia, Merseyrail and Southern services on 3 and 5 October.
